The ChallengeThe worlds leading brewer needed to integrate a corporate standard recipe into an exisitng fermentation control system. The goal was to increase productivity and enhance quality control through standardization of the process. The Solution The system needed to be implemented using the existing control system architecture. USDatas Factorylink software was used to transfer recipe parameters from a Sybase database into several Allen-Bradley PLCs. PLC program modifications were made to implement the new recipe parameters in the fermentation process. Setup screens were modified to accept parameters being received as recipe values. The Results This project resulted in uniformity of process operations among the customers facilities, greatly increasing quality control. Quality improvements also resulted from increased consistency due to the use of programmed recipe parameters. The simplification of the setup procedure reduced opportunity for operator error and provided the brewers with more time to monitor the operations. Additional benefits included increased productivity and reduced waste. McEnery Automation was able to complete the changes online, which reduced downtime and minimized production loss. McEnery Automation also provided expertise to implement the changes on existing control system equipment, which produced significant savings since there was no need for costly equipment replacement. |
